Below you will find a series of video filmed by our pulmonary and critical care house staff on the basics of mechanical ventilation. These range from basics, such as “what is PEEP?” to more advanced ARDS ventilation. Depending on your comfort with ventilation, you may want to review different videos:

  • Novice: If you have limited experience with ventilation, we recommend starting with the above introduction and working through the videos below in a chronological order.

  • Experienced: If you have experience in the ICU and with ventilation, it would be helpful to review ARDS videos 1 and 2, weaning a vent, troubleshooting a vent and reviewing the advanced ARDS therapies powerpoint. Additionally, you may want to review the 21-minute just in time review at SCCM linked to the right.

Finally, at the bottom of the page, you will find two ventilator simulators for the models we use that University of Cincinnati. The Hamilton Simulator requires a download, but it is a great program with programmed patients with ARDS and COPD. The Drager Simulator is online, not quite as high fidelity, but a great way to orient yourself to how that model operates.
