2026 Spring Intramural Research Funding Now Open! The Department of Internal Medicine (DOIM) is now accepting applications for its 2026 Spring Intramural Research Awards, which support faculty and trainee investigators pursuing innovative clinical, translational, basic, and outcomes research.

Available funding opportunities include:

• Senior Faculty Pilot Project Award – up to $40,000

• Junior Faculty Pilot Project Award – up to $30,000 (two awards)

• Rehn Family Research Award – up to $16,000

• Outcomes/Quality Improvement Award – up to $5,000

• Trainee Research Award – up to $5,000

• Trainee Travel Award – up to $3,000

Applications must be submitted through REDCap by April 27, 2026 at 11:59 PM. Award notifications are expected the week of June 8, 2026, with funding running from July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027.For full details and application links, see the official RFA or contact imresearch@uc.edu

HERmedicine 2026 Women’s Health Update is a one‑day, high‑impact CME designed to translate emerging evidence into everyday clinical practice. This interactive, case‑based program—led by nationally recognized experts—covers menopause and hormone therapy, GLP‑1s, cardiometabolic risk, breast cancer considerations, and sexual health. With small‑group discussions and live Q&A, clinicians leave with practical, actionable guidance they can use immediately. • Short stay TEAM (not unit) is ending May 8; new long call and nights algo with more attending admissions are going to be implemented to offload any extra volume

VA

• New Algorithms (Starting Monday, 4/20). The main changes include:

  • Pre-call will take two MICU bump-outs prior to noon

  • The night algorithm has changed slightly and will have a cap of five total admissions assigned to any given team (the same cap used at UC)

  The goal of these changes is to offload medium/short call and to prevent long call from opening early.
  

• VA Transfers

  Transfers from the VA to other hospitals (including UC) no longer require a signed consent form. Only verbal consent is needed, which can be documented in the discharge summary (e.g., “patient verbally consented to transfer”).

   

• Swing Coverage and Attending Support

  The hospitalist group is working to increase swing coverage. Until swing is fully staffed, the expectation is that the team’s primary attending will be available to assist during high-volume situations. The primary attending is expected to assist as needed, which may include providing in-person support. Residents should contact their primary attending via phone call if there are:

  • More than 3 admissions in an hour

  • More than 6 total admissions

  • Any concerns for patient safety (overwhelming cross-cover, decompensating patients, etc)
